Senior hurlers fall short in Dessie Murphy cup

10 November, 2012

Senior hurlers travelled to Arklow last Sunday morning to face Avondale in the Dessie Murphy cup; this is a playoff of the beaten semi finalists in this year's championship. We would have been down as favourites to win this game having beaten Avondale a number of times over the last few years but with several of our more senior players missing, mostly through injury and our minors having to play semi final the day before, we just couldn't get going to produce the kind of good hurling we had throughout the year. The game never seemed to take off and we found ourselves down 7 points to 4 at half time, Christy Moorehouse with 3 points two frees and one from play, Mikey Lee the other point from play, Daire Lohan was best of our young guns.

The second half didn't bring much more and our lads looked tiered and weary, we managed seven points five frees and two from play Christy and Gearoid, final score 12 points to 11 to Avondale who were the more hungrier team and just about desired the win, a good sporting game and were it not for the many wides, we might just have taken it.

Team was, Peter O'Reilly, Cillian O'Maolmhuaiodh, Peter Kieley, Ed Keating, Luke O'Reilly, Harry Stephenson, Luke Maloney, Willie Keane, Cathal O'Dualachain, Jackie Moorehouse, Eoin Mason, Daire Lohan, Mikey Lee, Paddy Lee and Gearoid O'Murchu

Subs Cian O'Byrne, Enda Molloy, Jordan Lee, Willie Nolan.
