Senior Hurling Championship

18 July, 2010

Bray Emmets continued in their quest to progress to the knockout stages of the senior championship in Arklow on Sunday. Their opposition was Carnew, the reigning county champions which represented a step-up in class for the young Bray team. Bray had a good start with a well taken point by Aaron Murphy. This however only seemed to spur Carnew on and while they had a number of missed scoreable point chances; they scored two relatively easy goals. Bray battled on however they found scoring difficult in the very wet and windy conditions. The Bray performance improved in the second half with two goals scored by Willie Keane and Michael Walsh and a point by Tommy Hamill. There were some good sides to this game for Bray with gritty performances by many players such as John Henderson, Eoin Brazil, Colm Johnson, Ronan O'Brien and Peter Walsh in defence. Aaron Murphy continued to fight throughout the game against very strong opposition in midfield. The forwards had a very difficult task and suffered through the loss of Christy Moorehouse through injury. They continued to battle on and were rewarded for hard work by the second half goals. Tommy Hamill, who came on as sub showed some good touches.  The experience of Carnew was evident throughout the game with very good backup play throughout the team. Bray tended to leave players unmarked and did not offer as many options when in possession. This can only be remedied by ball work and developing teamwork through training together and through the invaluable experience gained from playing at this level. The team have demonstrated that they have the necessary skill to compete at this level

The final score was Carnew 2-9, Bray 2-2
