Senior Hurling Championship V Avondale

20 August, 2010

Bray Emmets 2-13,

Avondale 1-16.

We had a successful ending to the group stages of the championship on Friday night in Ashford in our game against Avondale. This was a  big challenge to Bray as Avondale were also vying for the 3rd spot in the group and so result in the best seeding in the quarter-finals. Avondale started well and made best use of the short pitch. Eamonn Kearns at centre-field was particularly dangerous from play and especially from frees, from all distances. While our performance was patchy throughout the game, resulting from below par performance from some and injuries restricting others, the team however showed good character and fought back into the game. Bray had good scores in this first half, from Michael Walshe (1-1), Christy Moorehouse (0-4) and Aaron Murphy (0-2) and John Henderson (0-1). At half-time the score was Bray 1-8, Avondale 1-7. The second half was hard fought. Bray had to cope with injuries to key players, Liam Kenny and Bill Maher, who were replaced by Eoin Mason and Tommy Hamill. The result was on a knife edge to the very end with good scores from Barry Cunningham (1-0), Christy Moorehouse (0-3), Eoin Mason (0-1) and Aaron Murphy (0-1). The final result was Bray Emmets 2-13, Avondale (1-16).

Note: The team and management wish Gearoid OMurchu a speedy recovery from illness and hope that he is back soon to join the team. We were also delighted to see Jackie Napier back on the side line after his recent accident, as vocal as ever!
