Bray Emmets 3-12, Avondale 1-13

Bray Emmets Senior hurlers played their second game of the Championship in Arklow against Avondale on Thursday evening. Unlike the first game, conditions were ideal for hurling with a dry sod and sunshine through the whole game.

Avondale started in whirlwind fashion and were much sharper than Bray in the early exchanges. They scored some lovely points after good combination work and things looked ominous for Bray. Bray seemed to lack that sharpness and cohesion required at senior level and didn't give sufficient backup to each other. However from that slow start Bray gradually got up to the pace of the game and by half-time had levelled the game 0-7 each. The second half was hard fought and gradually Bray got the upper hand. Liam Kenny scored a goal after a typically never give up run. There were some fine scores by Mikey Browne (0-2), Gearoid O'Murchu (0-2, 1 free) and Jackie Moorehouse who went on a scoring spree in the end with 2-2.

While there were positives to be drawn from this game there is a still lot of improvements needed to advance to the next stage. The team obviously has potential, however the hunger shown in stages of the second half must be expressed through the whole game. Good, well attended training sessions are essential to develop that teamwork.
