Juniors draw with Eire Og

21 March, 2013

In what could only be described as atrocious weather conditions, the Junior Football team played out a very exciting draw with Eire Og in Greystones in Division 3 of the County League last Thursday night, 21st March. Greystones dominated the first half and assisted by the driving wind and rain, they bombarded the Bray defence repeatedly. However, Emmets defended stoutly and went in at half-time only three points down: Eire Og 0-4 Emmets 0-1.

With the wind to their backs in the second half, Bray were now in a good position but credit must go to Greystones who had 1 -1 on the scoreboard within 90 seconds of the restart. Despite this poor start, Bray came into the game strongly and with the aid of the elements, they powered to a lead of 3-4 to 1-6 with just three minutes remaining. However, victory was not to be and Greystones snatched 1-1 before the final whistle to share the spoils on a final score of Eire Og 2-7 Emmets 3-4. Indeed, had it not been for a great save from Tadhg Doran right at the death, Greystones could have taken all points.
Both teams and referee Johnny O'Brien have to be credited for their efforts in some of the worst weather conditions many had seen football played in for some time! Bray showed great team spirit and determination throughout the game which augurs well for the season ahead.
